Grant Funding
As a Charitable Trust, we are committed to supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable communities. To deliver these we offer grant funding to organisations to support a wide range of initiatives that deliver this aim.
Grants can be awarded to organisations which are not-for-profit, charities or an SME (Small or Medium Sized Enterprise). See below for our location criteria.
Applications must meet one of the two objectives below:
- To promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment in particular by providing grants for the installation and raising awareness of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, technology and solutions.
- The prevention or relief of poverty or financial hardship by providing assistance to the people who are in fuel poverty.

Our Funding Area
BWECT trustees consider the location of the project as part of the grant award decision making process and consider projects closest to the High Winds wind farm favourably to maximise the local community benefit of turbines. BWECT will fund projects further away but might expect the applicant to have identified other sources of funding and only ask for a contribution from BWECT. Exciting or unique projects in more distant parts of Cumbria might also get higher levels of support. Wherever you are in Cumbria please do apply or contact us to discuss your project.

Please use either our online application form or a downloadable copy of this. Further instructions are given in the form. We will acknowledge applications within 21 days of receipt. Applications will be assessed at least every 6 months, dependent on available finance.
